WINNERS OF THE NHS-1963 SCHOLARSHIP CLASS OF 2016
In 2016, we were able to increase the scholarship value from $1,000 to $1,237. Two $1,237 scholarships were awarded to Regina Chartier and Maddy Manganello.
Regina had outstanding academic accomplishments while at NHS South, including an outstanding GPA of 4.97, membership in the Art Honor Society, Math Honor Society, French Honor Society, National Honor Society and 4 year member of the NHS Swim team. She also did volunteer work with the Special Olympics Swim Team and was a positive contributor to the NHS school community. Regina desires to major in Biotechnology/Molecular Bio Science at Rochester Institute of Technology. Her goal is to obtain a Masters Degree in 5 years, and then work in the field of genetic disease to develop different treatment programs to halt the courses of these diseases and eventually find a way to cure them. We believe she is a most deserving recipient of this year’s NHS Class of 1963 scholarship.
Maddy also had impressive academic accomplishments while at NHS South, including an outstanding GPA of 4.68, membership in the National Honor Society, Science Honor Society, Art Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. We also acknowledge and appreciate her participation in the student council and the Interact Club for four years, and her voluntary work for the Jimmy Fund teen clinic group. Maddy overcame some significant health challenges recently, yet she persevered and continued to excel in both academics and in the school community. Her positive attitude and drive served as an inspiration to both students and teachers. She too is a most deserving recipient of this year’s NHS Class of 1963 scholarship.
Special shout out to Tom Osgood and Terry (Fariz) Huntley) who represented NHS-1963 and presented the scholarship award letters and checks to Regina and Maddy.
