In reviewing the selection of Joseline Morocho for the second NHS Class of 1963 Scholarship for 2026, Our Nashua High Class of 1963 Alumni Committee was made aware of her many academic achievements including a GPA of 3.83.
As a native of a foreign country, Joselin achieved academic success through her strong focus and unwavering determination while overcoming some challenging personal difficulties associated with her parent separation and the loss of her beloved grandmother. We were most impressed with her volunteer role supporting the English Language Learner community, mentoring new Spanish-speaking students, and giving tours helping to bridge both language and cultural gaps. She demonstrated the initiative, compassion and perseverance that this scholarship seeks to reward. |
ANNOUNCING THE WINNER OF THE RICHARD CABRAL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2026
|
Thirteen years ago, the NHS Class of 1963 celebrated the 50th anniversary of its own graduation from the former Nashua High on Elm St. (the predecessor of NHS South) by establishing a permanent Scholarship Endowment Fund dedicated to benefitting students at Nashua High School South. Later on, at our 55th class reunion in 2018, a new, additional scholarship was established to honor the spirit, legacy and extraordinary financial support of our classmate Dick Cabral (1945—2017) and his wife Wendy Cabral.
The Richard Cabral Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an applicant viewed by the faculty at NHS South as an "overachiever" during high school; a student who has overcome obstacles in order achieve his or her special level of academic accomplishment, a student who demonstrates a positive, highly motivated "can do" attitude, and who has achieved success in spite of challenges out of their direct control. |
|
The winner of this year's Richard Cabral Memorial Scholarship is Molly Waugh. In awarding this scholarship to Molly our Nashua High Class of 1963 Alumni Committee was made aware of Molly's academic accomplishments while a student at NHS South, earning a GPA of 4.03. Of significance, she experienced and overcame many extraordinary family and personal challenges growing up. Through it all she persevered and gained control over her future.
It seems, that every challenge she faced academically, she has overcome. Her paper entitled “Where My Mind Turned Against Me, I turned Back” was so beautifully written and heartwarming. We believe Molly to be a most deserving recipient of this year’s Richard Cabral Memorial Scholarship. |
